It’s no surprise that ‘Smith‘ is the most common last name in the English-speaking world such as the US, UK, and Australia. But did you also know the most popular last names in Brazil, China, India, and other corners of the world?

No worries. You’ll find out in this blog!

We have asked people from 40+ different countries to intensively research for their country’s top 5 most common last names.

In order to make this possible, we created a challenge to also collect their audios on how they pronounce those last names correctly.

CHALLENGE OF THE DAY

Can you do some research on the most common last names in your country? It would also be interesting to hear how they are normally pronounced.

To do this task:

1. After your research, share to the group the top 5 most common last names in your country. Roman alphabets only.
2. Record an audio pronouncing those 5 last names. Make sure to pause a second in between last names just to emphasize each of them.
3. End your audio by saying something like “Those are the 5 most common last names in my country. I’m (your name) from (your country.)”

    that’s fun =) Problems come when the same name is written in different ways or the name you know is written in a very weird way. So do not be afraid to ask people to spell their names.
